Holocaust survivor speaks to students
Since 1996 Dr. Eva Olsson, holocaust survivor, has been speaking about her life in hundreds of classrooms, churches, colleges and universities, in the hope that people who hear her story will know that it is possible to survive the worst life has to throw at them. The response to her message has been overwhelming, and that was evident on Tuesday, April 22nd, when Dr. Olssson spoke to students at Merivale High School. She related that at the outbreak of World War II, she was plunged into the heart of the holocaust concentration camps and slave labour factories. She witnessed the deaths of millions, including most of her family. Her first hand account was moving and compelling. Out of the despair that she encountered, she brought a message of hope. We must remember these atrocities, so that we learn from them and treat each other with dignity and respect.
